Australian Terrier



Breed History / Description

The breed was probably developed from native British terriers taken to Australia by settlers in the 19th Century – It is thought that the Scottish Terrier, Skye and Cairn played their part in the breed's development. He was used by settlers to keep down rodents and other vermin in their new territory.

Characteristics

Strong terrier character; alertness, activity and soundness. Essentially a working terrier, it is equally suited as a companion dog owing to its loyalty and even disposition. 

Temperament

Friendly, extrovert, obedient and anxious to please. Lives happily in town or country. Not aggressive but courageous if attacked.
