About me

Hi, My name is Catherine, I have been grooming for 20yrs  and I trained at Look North.

I started off as a YTS within a dog grooming salon when i was 16 yrs old. I worked in the salon for 3 years until the salon owner retired. I then took some time out of grooming and became a sealion trainer and show presenter. I was a sealion trainer for 9 yrs working at Knowsley safari park and West midlands Safari park.

I then started working at a training provider teaching/assessing/IQAing animal care for apprentices and then fell back into the grooming. I then became head of department. I still work at the training provider which will now be 22yrs.

While working with the training provider i also became an EQA for City and Guilds, mainly EQA'ing animal care but then rapidly came along the Dog grooming awards were i then became the Technical advisor/TEQA for all EQA's sampling Dog grooming or animal care. I have been working self employed for C&G for 14yrs. I am also a Lead moderator for C&G with the technical animal management Level 3 qualifications where i lead a number of moderators for the qualification.

I am also an EPA for Lantra on the apprenticeship animal welfare standards.

I own 2 Cocker Spaniels. Blue roan and a black and Tan (Cooper & Chewbacca). i used to have spaniels when i was a child. I have also owned a Bull Mastiff and a Heinz 57. All have lived to a great age.

I am passionate about grooming and education and regularly attend seminars when possible.

I subscribe to the English groomers group, Julie Harris education, UK jobs dog grooming group, Cocker spaniel group and I love my Bull mastiff.

I have completed a Pet First Aid course (Animal Love - Cainie health and First aid) with Sophie Bell and also completed a Reiki course with Rob Lowe. I have also completed Paw and Pad injuries course with Rachel Bean RVN and various animal behaviour and welfare course.

My greatest industry achievement is Becoming City and Guilds technical external Quality verifier for Dog grooming, assisting in writing and developing the Level 2 Dog grooming award, the new Apprenticeship and also level 2 Dog grooming award (still working towards).
